In honor of International Women’s Day, I wanted to share my tribute to an amazing woman with all of you.
Ruth.
I lost an idol today. A pioneer in every sense of the word. She managed to do something that I have been trying to figure out for some time now.
Most people would solely focus on all of her amazing achievements and why not? They were extraordinary! But in my eyes, she figured out how to have it all!
She literally broke through the glass ceiling. She broke it with a great big baseball bat! But, even with all the injustices she saw (and tried and succeeded) in putting a stop to, she was not jaded. It’s so easy to be jaded when you know a little too much, but she didn’t let that stop her.
She found the love of her life. Why? He was… “The first boy to ever fall in love with her brain.”
I Get It!
She credits him for literally saving her life once. Many years ago while she was battling her health issues he never left her side. He slept on the couch, or on a cot, or in a chair while she was in the hospital and he noticed one night that her IV didn’t look quite right. She said “had he not been there, she would have died.”
People will remember her for many reasons. Important Reasons. All women have been impacted by her in some form or fashion…even if they don't know it yet.
But what I will remember was a woman who figured out how to go after her dreams, stand up for what she believed in, forever changed our world, and have a real life love affair all at the same time.
Thank you Ruth…you upped the ante.
