Someone recently asked me this question. This was my answer...

Why do People Want More than They Have or Need?

I think that’s a very good question.

Other than creature comforts, such as shelter, food, friends, warmth, animals, things you truly enjoy…maybe books, or art, or music…an instrument that you play, some things possibly passed down to you from those you loved that make you smile when you turn your head and see whatever those things may be, I suppose they simply are not happy with who they are.

Maybe they constantly compare themselves to others who seem to have things that if they could just possess themselves, everything would be okay…

Maybe they are greedy?

Perhaps they never really appreciated what they were given or maybe they have never had to work for anything so they can not understand the value of earning something special or important that you worked very hard for.

We live in a society where some collect ‘things’ that they don’t even care about...what’s worse…some collect ‘people.’ And these people are transferable and used simply for their gain.

When we speak about those types of people, it’s an uphill battle. A question with no answer and no winner to the game. Because everything basically is a game to them. And ‘winning’ is all that really matters. And once you’re there, I don’t think any amount of anything will change a person like that. No partner will ever be enough. No amount of money will ever sustain them. They never learned that true wealth comes from within...maybe they simply have never felt the joy of truly being inspired. Because that’s how you inspire others…and the greatest joy of all is when you can inspire yourself. If you are able to do that, you have everything that you could ever need.

I recently read an article that I wish I had saved. Every word of it was true. But I remember the ending…

‘Inspired individuals reported experiencing more purpose in life and more gratitude.’

I couldn't agree more.
