Your Run-Of-The-Mill Liar, or A Narcissist?

I have only known a handful of liars throughout my life (at least that is what I believe to be true) but it honestly depends upon the liar.

If you are dealing with a ‘regular’ person, who made an error in judgment, told a lie and got caught, they might try to keep up with the lie, or, if at the core of them they are a good person who just made a poor choice, a mistake…they would admit it, feel remorseful, hopefully apologize and maybe try to explain themselves.

You hope, this sort of thing is simply a one time occurrence. People mess up. We are only human after all…we can still be a good person in spite of a bad choice.

However, if we are dealing with the champion of liars…the best of the best, the ones who could pass a lie detecter test with flying colors (that is what my attorney told me he felt about my ex husband once while battling a five year court battle that seemed at the time to have no end in sight) then we are dealing with something quite different from a normal human being simply making a mistake.

A pwNPD may not like to work, want all the accolades, sit back, do nothing yet take all of the credit, steal, hurt, betray, destroy, you know…all that good stuff, the reaction you will more than likely get will be so believable that you will actually believe them! At first. And quite possibly for some time, because though they were not bestowed with many gifts, where lying is concerned they should win a prize! An undeserving, unwarranted, and unfounded achievement, but an award nonetheless because they are just that good!

They will react like they have no idea what you are talking about. Or, if it is a bit more in depth, they will have a story (at times, right off the top of their head) that seems impossible not to be true…no one could come up with that, right? Who on earth could be that creative? Deceptively creative. Oh those Narcs and their lies…the breakfast of champions.

Last, if you question them, but this time, you are not backing down, you challenge them, because somehow, you are slowly seeing the truth…the truth in their lies, they will go into a rage of epic proportions. They are no longer denying anything or making up twisted, yet brilliant tales. They HATE you for knowing! They basically hate you for everything…everything you are that they are lacking. Everything you stand for that they find laughable because they truly have no moral compass. They hate you because you have finally figured them out. And once they know that you know, it truly is a battle to the death.

What you must decide is.. are you going to stay and fight? Prove your point? Prove them wrong or…are you going to walk away knowing all the while something you never wanted to believe yet knowing deep down (to your horror) that this is who they are, they will never change, and even after you have become a faint memory, their new supply that’s been lined up for a while now, they will experience their insidious ways as well. And they next one. And the one after that. And so on…

You come to realize, you are not just dealing with a very ‘not normal’ individual…you are dealing with the embodiment of evil.

My advice, save your sanity, never say another word, never give them another chance, and hope that justice is really out there because at least for me, being behind bars should be his residence for the rest of his life.
